Each entry consists of an entry form, a single photograph, and an entry fee. The entry fee is 275 norwegian kroner per entry. To enter, visit; complete an entry form with the required information, including your name, address, telephone number, email address, and photo caption; and submit along with your photograph and fee in accordance with the instructions that follow.



 The photographer(s) must be the author(s) of the pictures submitted in his/her/their name.



The 2018 Scandinavia Photo Contest begins August 9, 2018 at 12:00:00 p.m. US Eastern Daylight Time (“EDT”) and ends February 28, 2019, 11:00:00 p.m. US Eastern Standard Time (“EST”).


Winners will be notified by email ONLY by 4:00 pm EST, March 10, 2019. Decision of the judges is final. Winners' names will be available online at on or about January 10, 2019.



We will pay a reward of 7000 NOK to each winner in each category.



There are 10 competition categories in total, and all competition categories have a competition time  spanning from August 9, 2018 at 12:00:00 p.m. US Eastern Daylight Time (“EDT”) and ends February 28, 2019, 11:00:00 p.m. US Eastern Standard Time (“EST”).

 9. Best picture taken with a drone anywhere in Scandinavia.

10. Best picture taken with a mobile phone in Scandinavia.



The deadline for submission of photos is February 28, 2019, 11:00:00 p.m. US Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). Any pictures submitted after the deadline will not enter the competition.



There are no limitations on how many pictures each contestant can submit. Each entry consists of an entry form, a single photograph, and an entry fee. The entry fee is 275  norwegian kroner per entry. To enter, visit A picture can only be entered once, either as a single picture or as part of a story, or as part of a body of work in Long-Term Projects. Pictures submitted more than once will be removed from the contest.



Pictures must meet the following specifications:


The pictures must have the highest possible resolution, and preferably be originals.  Upload images with the original pixel size (unless cropped). Do not scale and do not change the resolution. Visit Scandinavia reserve the right to disqualify contestants who are unable to submit, upon request, a high-resolution photograph of at least 300 dpi at 8 x 12 inches (2400 x 3600 pixels).

Pictures must be uploaded in JPEG format with high quality compression. We will use winning images for high quality reproduction.

Pictures must not show the name of the photographer, agency, or publication, or any other information (these details can be included in the metadata of the pictures but must not be visible on the picture itself).

The pictures videos must have been taken in Scandinavia. 



You can only participate with pictures you have taken yourself. 


Right to publish from any persons depicted in the picture.

It is the submitter's responsibility to obtain the right to publish from any persons depicted in the picture. Name of the person or persons on the pictures must be included if they can be identified from the picture. When photographing children, the parents need to consent on behalf of the child until the child is 15 years old.



Visit Scandinavia retains the right to publish the pictures in relation to the competition, as well as to use the submitted photos and videoes in our own communication channels, including websites, social media, and printed materials such as brochures or magazines – for all eternity.

The pictures may also be used in relation to profiling, editorially, or in advertisements for a third party – but only in profiling, editorially or in advertisements made by Visit Scandinavia. 

No third party will have access or permission to use pictures in their own productions or for their own use without permission and license from the photographer and Visit Scandinavia.



The pictures and videoes may be sold through Visit Scandinavia’s picture portal on the Internet, or by direct request.

Visit Scandinavia will only sell pictures for which the photographer has permissioned such sales. Upon submission, the photographer will make a decision on whether these pictures can be sold or not.

Pictures which are not submitted with permission to sell will not be displayed on websites where pictures are being sold, but the pictures will still be visible on other websites belonging to Scandinavia Guide, and the pictures are equal contenders in the competition even if they are not available for sale.

Visit Scandinavia determines the selling price of the pictures. There is no fixed price. The prices vary depending on quality, attractiveness, and uniqueness. 70% of the advance on the picture goes to the photographer. The photographer will receive payment 33 days after the purchase of the picture/video took place.



Photographs that include sculptures, statues, paintings, and other works of art will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud; provided entrants must be prepared to provide a release form as described below in "Release." When photographing the work of others, it must be as an object in its environment and not a full-frame close-up of another person's art.

The photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the Contest entrant. By entering the Contest, entrant represents, acknowledges, and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.

The photograph must not, in the sole and unfettered discretion of the Sponsor, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.




If the photograph contains any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, and/or if any persons appear in the photograph, the entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the photograph, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the exhibition and use of the photograph in the manner set forth in these Official Rules without additional compensation. If any person appearing in any photograph is under the age of majority in their state/province/territory of residence the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required on each release.



Visit Scandinavia cannot be held responsible for entries that are lost, damaged, or delayed during transportation. Visit Scandinavia is not responsible for any failure of the website during this contest. Nor is it responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software or any email, online or internet entry lost due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer or property related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material in the promotion.



With regard to any photograph submitted to this contest, the entrant, or the owner of the copyright in the photograph, retains copyright. By uploading or submitting any photograph to this contest, the entrant grants (or warrant that the owner of such materials expressly grants) Visit Scandinavia a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any Visit Scandinavia purpose, including, but not limited to advertising and promotional materials, its website, exhibition, and commercial products, including but not limited to Visit Scandinavia publications. Visit Scandinavia will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses. Winning entrants are required to sign a release containing the above conditions.
